Our Children Eat & Read Program in Mesoamerica
The first day of school!
Kathy, an advocate for Guatemalan children, escorts Carlos Miguel to his first day of school in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. Carlos' mother is one of many women in Central America who are trapped in a life of extreme poverty and a high risk for exploitation and human trafficking. Without help she is unable to provide adequate food and schooling for her children. Will you sponsor Carlos or another child like him and help break the cycle of poverty, malnourishment, and exploitation? Your gift of $25.00 a month will help pay the costs of educating a child and provide nourishing food to supplement his diet.
The children eat and read program presently serves the urban poor of Quetzaltenango, and the rural indigenous Mayan population on the Pacific coastal plain of Guatemala.
Guatemala's President, Alvaro Colom, declared a 'state of calamity' last September, hoping to get international assistance to help some 54,000 families who are at high risk because of a regional food shortage.
Food is short, and the number of children undernourished is sky-rocketing. The country of Guatemala was recently placed third on the UN's list of countries in deepest poverty with a staggering 61 percent of children under five malnourished.
- Your gift of $25.00 a month will help pay the costs of educating a child and provide nourishing food to supplement his diet.
- A gift of $75.00 a month will provide a nourishing hot lunch for a child five days a week and school expenses for one month.
- Your one-time gift of any amount will help feed children in Central America.
