A: The micro-business projects of Maya-Mesoamerica Mission serve to provide opportunities for women at risk of human trafficking or modern day slavery and impoverished families in Central America to earn income in an atmosphere of safety and dignity.
Q: What is Party Girl? A: Party Girl is a project of Maya-Mesoamerica Mission that provides good quality party dresses in partnership with churches, civic groups, businesses, and individuals from North America for resale in Guatemala. Q: What happens to the money in Guatemala after the dresses are sold? A: Like income from other micro-business development projects, income from the sale of dresses is for use in meeting the daily needs, and achieving economic opportunity for the participant. Q: Where will Party Girl obtain the dresses that they sell in Guatemala? A: The dresses will be donated by partners of the micro-business project in North America. Q: What kind of dresses do we want? A: We can use excellent quality, cleaned, and pressed prom dresses, bride’s maid dresses, evening gowns and semi-formal dresses in all styles and sizes. Please no casual dresses or clothing. This is not a general clothing drive, party dresses only! Q: How will the dresses get from the donor in the United States to the Micro-business project in Guatemala? A: Donors will give the dresses to a local area coordinator or ship them directly to the Maya-Mesoamerica Mission collection point in Missouri. In Missouri, the dresses will be sorted and packed for shipping to Guatemala. The dresses will go by truck from Missouri to Miami and by ship from Miami to Guatemala, or by air directly from Missouri to Guatemala. Q: What are the responsibilities of the local area coordinator? A: The local area coordinator will ask groups, individuals, or businesses to donate dresses. Then the coordinator will receive the dresses in their area and ship them to the collection point in Missouri. Q: Where is the collection point in Missouri where the dresses are to be shipped? A: Maya Mesoamerica Mission Q: Are cash donations needed for this project. A: Yes, money will be needed to cover the cost of shipping, taxes, and fees in Guatemala. Q: How does someone give cash? A: Checks can be sent to; Q: Are gifts tax deductable? A: Yes, Maya Mesoamerica Mission is recognized as a tax exempt charity by the IRS under chapter 501©3. Your gifts of cash or dresses qualify as a tax deductable gift. Please include your name and email address with your gift where we can send a receipt.
